MoWiLife reaches key milestone with successful Midterm Review in Brussels

The Horizon Europe project MoWiLife has reached an important milestone with the successful completion of its Midterm Review Meeting in Brussels. Coordinated by the University of Rostock, the project brings together nine European partners working on next-generation power electronics for future renewable energy systems.

The meeting took place after the submission of the project’s Midterm Report and provided an opportunity to present the progress achieved during the first half of the project. During the review, the consortium discussed technical developments, current results, challenges, and next steps with the CINEA Project Officer and an external expert.

“The Midterm Review was a good opportunity for us to jointly reflect on the progress made so far and align on the next steps. The constructive feedback from the responsible EU project officer and the external expert confirmed that we are on the right track and supports us in successfully achieving the project goals.” said Prof. Hans-Günter Eckel, University of Rostock, MoWiLife Project Coordinator.

MoWiLife focuses on advanced power electronics technologies for renewable energy applications, with a strong emphasis on high-performance silicon carbide (SiC) and diamond-based devices. The project aims to improve efficiency, robustness, and long-term reliability for future wind, solar, and DC grid energy systems.

The first half of the project has laid an important foundation across the different work packages. Key activities include the development of advanced semiconductor devices, condition monitoring concepts, packaging approaches, and system-level demonstrators. The Midterm Review confirmed the relevance of the project’s objectives and helped to sharpen the focus for the upcoming phase.

With the Midterm Review completed, the European partners are now entering the second half of MoWiLife with renewed motivation and a clear focus on implementation, validation, and impact.

The consortium looks forward to continuing its collaboration and contributing to more efficient and reliable power electronics for Europe’s future energy systems.
